Henin routs Kuznetsova to win second U.S. Open title

NEW YORK — Top seed Justine Henin won her seventh career Grand Slam title on Saturday, beating No. 4 Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-1, 6-3 in the final of the U.S. Open. For Henin it was her second career U.S. Open title, and she now trails only Serena Williams (8) for most major titles among active players.
Henin, who also won the 2003 Open, did not drop a set all tournament and became the first woman to win a Grand Slam after beating both Williams sisters along the way.
“This one is maybe the most important one. The quality I played in the last few matches has been amazing, and it’s a great feeling, because I had a tough draw,” said Henin, the 2003 Open champion. “I had a lot of things to prove to myself. Not to anyone else, but to myself. And I did it.”

The men will play their final today. On Sunday, the 20-year-old Serbian by the name of Novak Djokovic will take the court in Arthur Ashe Stadium. It is the first Grand Slam final of his ascendant career. He faces a venerable champion: Roger Federer, owner of 11 Grand Slam titles. The record show that Djokovic is the youngest men’s U.S. Open finalist since Sampras in 1990.
