Students from Midwest Chess Academy excel at State
      March 16, 2011 – 4:53pm

The Pembroke Hill School chess team won the K-3 and K-5 Missouri state chess championship on February 26, 2011 in Jefferson City, MO. This is the 4th time in five years the K-5 squad won the state competition and three of the last 4 years for the K-3 squad.

On the Kansas side, individual students earned top honors. Karan Mehta (5th grader) who attends Liberty View Elementary (Blue Valley) in Olathe, won the state championship with a perfect score in the K-5 Division. This is Karan’s second state title. He has been working with instructors from Midwest Chess Academy for the last 3 years.

Also in Kansas, resident James Dryer of the Cedar Creek Private Academy in Olathe won the K-3 state championship which occurred on March 12, 2011 in Wichita, KS. Still just a 2nd grader, James will defend his title the following year. This is an especially amazing achievement because James has only been involved in chess for a year and 7 months. Normally it would take at least 3 years to achieve a state title.

All of these students are trained by the instructors from Midwest Chess Academy. You can find more information about them at www.midwestchess.com or you may contact Tim Steiner at (913) 638-7707.
