      Telenor World Cup Blitz

      Agdestein, Blitz, Tromsø, World Cup


      Telenor World Cup Blitz, the first of the many planned side events during the 2013 World Chess Cup, was held on 13th August at the Scandic Hotel in Tromsø.

      The tournament was played as a 10-round Swiss with the time control 3′+2”. World Cup players, seconds, accompanying persons and local chess fans formed the field of 50 players.

      Norwegian Grandmaster Simen Agdestein, who was eliminated in round 1 of World Cup by Etienne Bacrot, stormed through the event to claim a convincing victory with 9,0/10 points.

      Final standings (top finishers):

      1. GM Simen Agdestein NOR 2567 – 9.0

      2-7. GM Maxim Turov RUS 2588, GM Sabino Brunello ITA 2580, GM Bassem Amin EGY 2635, GM Diego Flores ARG 2586, GM Jan Smeets NED 2643 and GM Salem Saleh A R UAE 2556 – 7.0


      8-10. GM Sandro Mareco ARG 2557, GM Evgeny Postny ISR 2637 and GM Ivan Popov RUS 2620 – 6.5


      11-16. GM Pouria Darini IRI 2530, G Akash IND 2340, Jon K. Røyset NOR 2174, Aaron Banda ZAM, IM Samy Shoker EGY 2469 and IM Igor Bjelobrk AUS 2341 – 6.0 etc.
