        WOW

        Suddenly I understand it now.

Texas Tech is donating 2 scholarships but the tournaments will be held where they already plan on being held.

EXCELLENT is putting it mildly. This is STUPENDOUS.

What a super university Texas Tech is. They are the Best of the Best.

Thank You Texas Tech. All the scholastic players of America can now have a rare opportunity to win a wonderful scholarship. Texas Tech is so wonderful.

Susan, you and Paul are the greatest in helping chess in America.

        Jimmy

Think what can happen if most major colleges in the US follow Texas Tech’s example!

One has to ask why the current and immediate past boards haven’t been able to do these same kinds of things.

        (sound of crickets…)

        Time for a change, methinks.

        I voted.

After the USCF President Bill Goichberg insulted the Denker Chair Dewain Barber, Susan Polgar, Paul Truong and Texas Tech University this morning, claiming that they did not have the authority to do so, here is what he just posted:

“I spoke to Bill Hall about Barber signing the contract. He said that he authorized Barber to do so on behalf of USCF, but only to accept scholarship prizes and not to do any tournament placement.

        Bill Goichberg”

So it seems that our President decided to recklessly attack the sponsors and the people who do great things for chess before even checking with his own ED. But no apology for the false accusations and insults.

And this is the man who is leading US chess. No wonder why chess in this country has suffered. Goichberg should either resign or issue an apology.

I can only hope that this starts a movement towards more universities offering chess scholarships

In the Philippines, chess is part of the spectrum of sports that colleges compete in. Because of this, they offer scholarships to chess players to play on their team much like American colleges grant scholarships to football or basketball players, etc.

Felicitations on this great event for your young players.

Also a special hello to my old chess friend Dewain!
