Chess media, Commentary, Norway, Tromsø, World Cup

On behalf of the entire media team at the Press Center (Lawrence Trent, Macauley Peterson, Jarle Heitmann, Gerard Demuydt, and the rest of the staff) I would like to thank all of you for your support of our quest to make the Tromsø 2013 World Cup exciting, informative, and fun for everyone.

When I was approached by the Norwegian organizers about running the Press Center for the Tromsø 2013 World Cup and 2014 Chess Olympiad, I told them that this was my vision. Chess is a great game and we are all so passionate about it. Therefore, covering such world class events should not be stale and boring.

In addition, with the incredible computer technology today, there is no reason why the fans at home cannot get instant updates, behind the scene tidbits, and so much more in real time. As a player and big fan of the game, I am often frustrated when I cannot get sufficient information or coverage of chess events on a timely basis. That is why we all made a big effort to change this.

According to what I was told by our technical people, the media number is by far the highest ever for this type of chess webcast. It broke every record to date by a significant margin. This could not have happened without your support.

I hope that we succeeded in bringing you excitement and drama at this World Cup so far. This team will be back next year for the Chess Olympiad. In the mean time, enjoy the commentary by Dirk Jan Ten Geuzendam and Nigel Short for the final 3 rounds. I plan to be in Tromsø all the way until the end. I will continue to tweet (@SusanPolgar), provide pictures, do interviews, and bring you interesting information right here on this site.

Once again, thank you so much for your warm and incredible support!

      Susan

You have done a fantastic job Susan. A nice blend of good commentary, good mini-interviews and general sense of fun.

You work well with Lawrence and even translate for Chucky sometimes! 🙂

Good job, Susan. You and Lawrence were a great team! I also feel the event really benefitted from the presence of a female host, especially during the interview stages.
Commentators like Dirk Jan ten Geuzendam might be alright, but sometimes he just sounds so boring and detached. I am already missing you and Lawrence after 5 minutes of his commentary…

Anyway, I hope you will cast more tournaments in the future!

I have really enjoyed your work, commentary and interviews. Korobov interview being my favorite 🙂
You and Lawrence set the bar impossibly high so Nigel and Co cannot quite measure up but still interesting to hear them too. As a Norwegian based on the US I am very proud of how professional everything has been so far. I know you have been in Tromsø before so I hope you will return for the Olympics!
