Wedding bells are all set to ring for World No.3 woman chess player and Arjuna awardee Koneru Humpy, who got engaged to Dasari Anvesh, son of city-based industrialist Dasari Ramakrishna, CEO of Efftronics Private Limited, here last week.

The news along with photos found a prominent mention in the blog of Hungarian’s Grandmaster Susan Polgar and sister of Judit Polgar, the world No. 1 women player, with comments from all over the world.

For the chess fraternity the news brought cheer for their queen got her handsome knight, and quite interestingly her marriage is going to take place in the new State.

“The engagement took place on May 22 and we kept it a close family affair. The marriage will be held on August 13 at ‘A’ Convention Hall,” her father Dronacharya Koneru Ashok told The Hindu.

Twenty-six-year-old Humpy, amidst her wedding preparations, will be busy training for the all-important FIDE Grand Prix to be held at Georgia from June 16.

“This is the third of four compulsory GP fixtures to be played to qualify for the clash for the world title. After the wedding, I will be taking part in the fourth GP at Mongolia, from August 24,” says Ms. Humpy.

Ms. Humpy scored comprehensive victories in the first Grand Prix at Armenia (eight points out of 11) followed by her triumph at Tashkent in the second (eight points out of 11). These victories are a testimony to the Vijayawada girl’s determined stride towards her goal – the women’s world title.
