As an assistant, student gives and receives lessons

My favorite day of the week is Friday, but not because the weekend is in sight.

Each Friday, I act as a teacher’s assistant in Lisa Ingrum’s Brain Aerobics class. I have assisted various teachers for three years at my school and have enjoyed every minute. In classes as varied as Arts and Crafts and physical education, I have met children who remain my friends.

Working as a teacher’s assistant is rewarding. As my students succeed, I know I am making a difference in their lives. I remember how proud I was when a third-grade girl dashed up behind an overconfident running back and pulled his flag.

This year, I am amazed when I think about how much my Brain Aerobics students have improved. Last August, one girl could barely name the chess pieces, but now I have to work hard to keep her from beating me.
