“The Match” will take place in Sofia

Anand, Bulgaria, Sofia, Topalov, World Championship

A unanimous vote was made at the 80th FIDE congress in Halkidiki, Greece. The Anand – Topalov world championship match will be held in Sofia, Bulgaria.

The prize funds will be 3 million euros gross, with 2 million euros net to the players, 20% to FIDE, and the rest for organizational expenses.

There is no exact date as far as I know for the match but it will be around April 2010.

Finally we have a place and a date for the match of the year!

Thinking about how “easily” he downplayed Kramnik game after game, I think Anand will win this match too.

1.Topalov got a free lunch for the Championship against Kamsky
2.The ‘Candidates-Final’ took place in Topalovs Home Town Sofia
3.The Championship will take place in Sofia as well

Anybody (non-Bulgarian) out there who will recognize Topalov as a fair champion in case Danailov….aeh.. Topalov wins this match?

Of course Topalov is a world champion, i think Kramnik got a free lunch by playing the match in Elista where all KGB people can competely ruin Topalov’s match concentration.

        Fact 1.
Topalov is Number 1 in rankings for years in a row now.
        Fact 2.
Chess is popular sport in Bulgaria and there will always be money in it as long as we have high profile players( Topa and Cheparinov)
        Fact 3.
Danailov is one the highest profile chess people because he has what it takes ( find sponsorships, organize tournaments). No money= all high level players will be amateurs.
        Fact 4.
Topalov’s hometown is not Sofia but Ruse, which is in the north of the country.

Should be an interesting match. I don’t know where you get your facts from Kiko but Topalov has been no 1 for just one year. I’d also say Kramnik had more to put up with in Elista than the other way round. I suppose Topalov’s team will behave themselves on home turf. I hope so.

I don’t get it?! You mean Sofia got it just because they offered more money?? What is this world we live in??
