      The most lopsided team ever?

      Dzindzichashvili, Eugene Perelshteyn, Izoria, USATE

As reported by the gettingto2000.blogspot.com, the US Amateur Team East was won by a team with 3 GMs!

Board 1) GM Izoria, Zviad 2714
Board 2) GM Perelshteyn, Eugene 2592
Board 3) GM Dzindzichashvili, Roman 2586
      Board 4) Fanning, Stephen 110

I remember a past team with GM Karpov, GM Henley and IM Krush. But can you think of any other team with 3 GMs?

The East Team should be embarrassed!! How is that young boy supposed to feel after he loses five chess games just so those GMs can wallow in it about winning an amateur event? The United States Chess Association needs to put an end to foolhardy team entries like this — totally against the spirit of an amateur event. There needs to be like a 1,000 point limit spread between the highest team member rating and the lowest team member rating.

        Amateur? U.S.?
        Robin has a legitimate gripe.

Wasn’t Dzinzi rated third in the world at some point? There is nothing fair about this. Its NOT an amateur team I agree with the other two. That said….As an amateur, I always like the chance to down a GM and relish the opportunity.

Whatever else it may be, this is really funny.

I don’t think Dzindzi was ever third, but he was briefly in the top ten.

There is no US “pro” or “open” team event is there? Only those whose interest is most in “winning” something would ever mind having strong players participate. Do the players from the Virgin Islands chess olympic team resent having to play Spain, Ukraine or some other powerhouse? I’m sure if that the other team champs would find it interesting to play some strong GMs.

I have never seen a team like this before.
How did he get on the team in the first place?

I think it is cool that they won anyway!!

The East once again flaunts the attitude that they are better than other regions by allowing such a team. The other 3 regions do not allow this because they have the 1000 point rule between boards 3 and 4.

I wonder if they will be allowed in the playoffs? I would boycott if I had to play this team.

His parents are rich from Napster and basically bought the title. Maybe one of the GMs has a poker debt to pay off too…

Zviad Izoria? Never heard of this 2700+ player. Really strange!

Zviad Izoria won $50,000 at the HB Global in 2005.

I read the tournamant information for all four USAT events. I remember there being a rating limit only in the West.
