The Polgar sisters back in Budapest

      Budapest, Polgar sisters

After more than 10 years, the legendary chess Olympic champion sisters Susan, Sofia and Judit will once again play together in a 100 board simultaneous chess exhibition in Budapest on Sunday. The competition will be against players between 1800-2100 European strength (equivalent to 1900-2200 in the US).

The Polgar sisters shocked the world by winning the Gold medals at the Thessaloniki Olympiad in 1988 and in Novi Sad two years later. This ended the dominance of the Soviet women in chess.

Each of the three sisters now has two children, with Susan living in the United states, Sofia in Canada and Judit in Budapest.

The simul will be held at a 5 star hotel in Budapest and the event will be covered by Hungarian national media. A major press conference will be held at 2 PM. All members of the Polgar Chess and Culture tour will have a chance to participate in this historic simul.

To be able to participate in this is an honor in itself.

Sofia lives in Canada? Hmm I guess I’d heard something about that, I’d thought she’d lived in Israel for a while though, so I’d figured she was still there.
