The US refuses to send women’s team to World Team Championship

Ali Nihat Yazici, Chess politics, Turkey, USCF

The US Team Will not Play in Mardin

The US Chess Federation made a final decision of not sending a team to the Women’s World Team Chess Championship which will take place in Mardin, Turkey and informed organisers about that by the following letter:

Mr. Ali Nihat Yazici, Members of the Organizing Committee, and interested parties:

After serious consideration of multiple issues and several topics that were a concern to us, the USCF has decided to respectfully decline the invitation to the 2011 Women’s World Team Championships.

One of the primary concerns was the principle that, although the qualification process for teams to the Women’s World Team Championship are the same as for the World Team Championship, the regulations for the conditions are not consistent. We feel that this is an inappropriate gender bias and hope that this issue is addressed in the near future. We wish you the best success with the event.

      Regards,
      Bill Hall
      Executive Director
      United States Chess Federation

Once again, the USCF imposed chess politics without paying attention to the players’ welfare.

Lets just pitch in and donate to cover the expenses.

        I pledge $500

I am ok with asking Judith to collect the funds

        any one else in?

Do we need USCF permission or can the women just go.

No one can do anything without the consent of the USCF. I was never asked to help. My foundation could have helped with the difference. But no one asked. I just found out about it yesterday after the USCF declined the invitation.

        Best wishes,
        Susan

This is so hard to understand. All the money in the US for sports and we can not get enough money to send our chess women to this event. All the high paid athletes, actors and such could have donated to this event if someone would have asked. But once again the US will look foolish. Well while the team is sitting at home I guess they can watch TV, shows like Ice truckers, Swamp men, or ladies chasing hogs in the woods. What do we need with a great women chess team? If I was from another country I would be laughing my butt off at the US …. what a dumb ass country ! I know you and your team tried Susan.

Why not fire all of these idiots? What do they do with the millions they collect each year from dues and scholastic tournaments?

The USCF can organize naked chess to raise money. Great idea.
