13th ranked Mamedyarov will be the highest seed to go down. Kosteniuk will draw 2 hard fought games and win in the rapid playoff.

I’m not sure how much it matters as Carlsen does not bother to participate. Here we go again with another useless FIDE prelim.

Idiots, making stupid comments being completly ignorant… (see previous anonymous).

        Well lets bother answering:

The world cup is QUALIFIER for the candidates tournament. Therefore, the World champion, and the rest who qualify, do NOT play (unless they want to collect some money as Kamsky does)

Therefore, the following do NOT play: Topalov or Anand (the one will be champion and the other will qualify as loser of the previous final), Aronian (winner of the Grand-Prix), Carlsen (highest rating after those that qualify), Kramnik (second rating after the ones that qualify).

Along with these, comes the second of the Grand-Prix (this is still open so the candidates for this namely Radjabov, Gashimov, Wang, Ivanchuck DO play), and one player named by the organiser (Azerbaijan organises so it will be Radjabov or Gashimov).

These players with the 2 first of the world cup will play the candidates tournament and the winner a match with the previous champ (Anand or Topalov by that time)

So effectively ALL players (apart from…Leko maybe) do participate at this world championship cycle

Pavasovic had an accident while playing football a few day ago (something happened to his Achilles . Due to his operation he is not able to get to the venue in time. Judit will start on Tuesday in the 2nd round.

Its rather odd..but I seem to agree with just about everyone here….and I won’t call people names…etc..but seriously, the top ten should be the next candidates and start from there….more than half the names I see on this list I’ve never heard of and have no business playing for the world title. Lets be serious here…this is not a proper way to find a challenger. We all know who the main contenders are.

        Pavasovic withdrawn “due to injury”?

Sad to hear that, but Judit would have chewed him and spat him out anyway.

I wanted to see the games, and got a message: Live broadcast stopped due to technical reasons. Any news what is going on and when it would be fixed?
