        And here is another mate: 1. f8Q??, Qb1+ 2. Ka3, Qa1+ 3. Ba2, Qxb2# but it’s a half move longer so it won’t be the solution.

Unless I am missing something, it’s an easy mate in three.

f8=N+ seems too easy for your normal level Susan 🙂

There’s something extra enjoyable about problems with underpromotion as a solution.

        An easy one.

        1. f8=N+ (nothing other promotion works as ..Qb1+ 2. Ka3 Qxb2#)

        ..Rxf8 (forced)
        2. Nxf8+ Kh8
        3. Qg8#

An underpromotion should do it. (Apologies to all egalitarians for the “underpromotion” epithet.)

        Pretty, but easy.

Black is threatening checkmate by 1… Qb1+ 2. Ka3 Qxb2 mate. So white ought to go for a forced sequence – and after staring at the position for a couple of minutes I found this:

        1. f8N+ Rxf8
        2. Nxf8+ Kh8
        3. Qg8 mate.

Seems like a straightforward underpromotion problem.

        Very easy.

        1. f8=N Rxf8
        2. Nxf8 Kh8
        3. Qh8++

        “Black is threatening checkmate by 1… Qb1+ 2. Ka3 Qxb2 mate.”
Oups. Even when joking I can’t play chess.
        “1. f8Q??, Qb1+ 2. Ka3, Qa1+ 3. Ba2, Qxb2# but it’s a half move longer so it won’t be the solution.”

So 1. f8Q?? seems to be one of the fastest ways to decide the game.

        *rolleyes*

There are about over 100 other moves that will lose as quickly, Jochen, so *off topic* I would say.
