Unbeaten Tissir bags chess title

TOP seed Mohammed Tissir claimed the title in the Second Bahrain Chess Club Championship with minimum of fuss and the concluding round to spare at the Engineers Society in Juffair.
The 32-year-old Moroccan beat second ranked Maher Ayyad in style for his eighth victory in eight matches and take his tally to eight points, 1.5 points ahead of his nearest rival Hussain, Maher’s younger brother, with just one more round to go.
Tissir is paired against Abdullateef Ahmaed in the final round, the result of which will have no bearing on the fate of the title. But the battle for second place is fierce with Hussain on 6.5 points and six more players on six points each.
Hussain takes on his veteran compatriot Ali Al Ghasra on board No. 2 while Maher clashes with Reyjoy Bartolay of the Philippines on board No. 3 and India’s Roshan D’Souza matches wits with another Filipino Anthony Pelayo on board No. 4.
Four more players are on 5.5 points, 10 more on 5 points and another five on 4.5 points.
