West Jordan boy now top chess player in U.S. for his age

WEST JORDAN — A West Jordan boy is now considered the best chess player of his age group in the United States.

Ten-year-old Kayden Troff defeated a five-time Utah State Champion and Utah’s highest-rated active chess player this weekend.

Those victories made him the number one player of his age group and gave him the title of “Expert” or “Candidate Master.”

Troff prepares for his matches by playing chess six to seven hours a day then going fishing with his dad the day before the event.
