      Vladimir Petkov victorious in Gabicce Mare

      Italy, Winter Sea Deluxe Open


      The 2nd Winter Sea Deluxe Open was held on 2-6th January at the Hotel Michelacci in Gabicce Mare, Italy, next to the Adriatic Sea.

      The tournament was organized by the Fano Chess Club and Dario Pedini.

      A total of 126 players competed in three sections: Open A for those rated above 1900, Open B for the U2000 participants, Open C for U1600 and Juniors U16 (born after 1.1.1997).

      Bulgarian Grandmaster Vladimir Petkov emerged clear winner of the Open A with 7,0/9 points, leaving the second placed IM Evgenij Kalegin half a point behind.

      FM Nicola Altini achieved IM norm.

      Open A final standings:

      1. GM Petkov Vladimir 2572 BUL – 7,0
      2. IM Kalegin Evgenij 2429 RUS – 6,5
      3-6. GM Drazic Sinisa 2421 SRB, FM Altini Nicola 2363 ITA, IM Collins Sam E. 2471 IRL and FM Aghayev Miragha 2352 ITA – 6,0
      7-10. GM Kosic Dragan 2504 MNE, IM Collutiis Duilio 2484 ITA, IM Bodiroga Predrag 2376 SRB and FM Minko Vladimir 2306 RUS – 5,5
      11-14. FM Brancaleoni Maurizio 2207 ITA, GM Kostic Vladimir G 2411 SRB, Baldazzi Stefano 2223 ITA and Rindlisbacher Jan 2250 SUI – 5,0 etc

      In the Open B Italian players Ettore Fronzi 1930, Roberto Giovannini 1961 and Marcello Orsatti 1911 shared the first place with 5,5/7 points each.

      In the Open C Stefano Savini was the convincing winner with 6,5/7 points.
