      Volkov leads Khazar Open

      Sergey Volkov grabs the lead in the 9th Khazar Open
      15th to 22nd February in Rasht, Iran, for the total prize fund of 30.000 USD

      The 9th Khazar International Chess Cup is taking place from 15th to 22nd February in Rasht, Iran, for the total prize fund of 30.000 USD. The main A tournament has 79 participants who compete over the 9 rounds of Swiss system.

      Russian Grandmaster Sergey Volkov, winner of the recent 40th Rilton Cup, singled out on the top after beating GM Farid Abbasov in the fifth round. Volkov has 4.5 points, half a point ahead of the group of five players, and is paired to play Black against GM Elshan Moradiabadi in the next game.

      1. GM Volkov Sergey RUS 2602 – 4.5

      2-6. Quparadze Giga GEO 2395, IM Rasulov Vugar Ural Oglu AZE 2483, GM Moradiabadi Elshan IRI 2558, IM Golizadeh Asghar IRI 2504 and GM Toufighi Homayoon IRI 2450 – 4.0

      7-17. GM Pantsulaia Levan GEO 2610, Abdulov Orkhan Javanshir Oglu AZE 2334, GM Fedorov Alexei BLR 2593, GM Abbasov Farid AZE 2537, IM Nigalidze Gaioz GEO 2456, GM Tiviakov Sergei NED 2623, IM Maghalashvili Davit GEO 2453, FM Mammadov Ayaz Arzu Oglu AZE 2409, IM Azaladze Shota GEO 2456, GM Jojua Davit GEO 2515 and IM Sulashvili Malkhaz GEO 2497 – 3.5 etc.
