      Wang Yue defeats Ivanchuk to join the leaders

      After missing a clear win in the endgame against Dominguez yesterday in round 1, Wang Yue came back and won against Ivanchuk (with help from Ivanchuk) today with the Black pieces. He joins Shirov and Carlsen at the top of the leaderboard.

        The end of the Yue game was very, very pretty. I still have to study it a few moves prior to the white king getting imprisoned, so I don’t know if Ivanchuk blundered or not, but h4+ by black was a beauty.

        It was trivial for white to draw. He was playing for a win with BG5, when be6 was a dead draw.

        Besides of the mistake of Ivanchuk, the End Game indicates the class of Wang Yue..
