Webster – SPICE would be ranked 20th in the Chess Olympiad

Chess Olympiad, SPICE, St Louis, Webster University

If Webster University – SPICE would be allowed to compete in the Chess Olympiad, our first four player team would be ranked 20th out of 162 national teams, with an average rating of 2627.5 🙂

      GM Wesley So (Philippines) 2652
      GM George Meier (Germany) 2648
GM Fidel Corrales Jimenez (Cuba) 2612
      GM Ray Robson (USA) 2598

And our second four player team would be ranked 43rd among 162 national teams.

      GM Manuel Hoyos (Mexico) 2579
      GM Anatoly Bykhovsky (Israel) 2527
      GM Denes Boros (Hungary) 2485
      GM Andre Diamant (Brazil) 2473

Way back in 1984 when there were fewer players with high ratings, Merton College—which is just one of over 30 colleges that make up Oxford University—had a team that could challenge France (which did not have any GMs):

Now-GM William Watson, then about 2450.
        Myself, then about 2430.
        Dugald MacPherson, about 2250.
        Alistair Sinclair, about 2100.
The reserve could be Jesse Norman, who is now a Conservative MP.
