Change of the dates of the World Chess Championship 2008 to be held in Bonn, Germany: The Match for the World Champion title between Anand and Kramnik will take place from 14 October to 2 November 2008
The World Chess Championship match 2008 in Germany will commence three days later than it was announced before. The duel between Viswanathan Anand ( India) and Vladimir Kramnik ( Russia) will take place in the Art and Exhibition Hall of the Federal Republic of Germany in Bonn from 14 October to 2 November 2008.
“We would like to announce herewith that the organizer of the World Chess Championship Match 2008 Anand-Kramnik – Universal Event Promotion – has in the short run decided to change the dates of the championship. UEP would like to make sure that the official persons, who represent politics and society and who support the match, would be able to attend the Opening ceremony of the Championship. Therefore we decided to change the schedule”, emphasizes Josef Resch, President of the Universal Event Promotion.
The opening of the first game of the match Anand-Kramnik will take place on Tuesday, 14 October at 3 p.m. in the Art and Exhibition Hall, Bonn. The match will consist of twelve games with classical time control, from 14 to 31 October 2008. In case of a tie, a tiebreak will be played on 2 November 2008.

WOW!! TWELVE WHOLE (?) GAMES!! 24 too much for these “MEN” nowadays? Okay then, make it 20. Even 16, with at least 4 wins would have a bit more feel of a winner having proved something. But 12???? It’s an embarrassment.
I agree, but this is what we are stuck with today. Being as it may, I think Kramnik has the edge in this format.
12 is too less. With so few games, both players are unlikely to take excessive risks and likely to play more cautiously. Whoever wins first will most likely resort to a drawing strategy for the remainder of the games…
