Malakhov learned well from the master Wesley.

He made mince meat out of Svidler.

He looks like the one the win it all.

I get into your blog and the first thing I see is that picture. I immediately thought: “Poor Gelfand lost …”

        Boris Gelfand vs Dmitry Jakovenko
Dmitry Jakovenko beat Boris Gelfand 3 to 2, with 7 draws, by chessgames. By this results, anyone from the two can advance to the semis.

        Ruslan Ponomariov vs Vugar Gashimov
Vugar Gashimov beat Ruslan Ponomariov 1 to 0, with 3 draws, by chessgames,In my opinion Ponomariov is in better shape and will go to the semis

        Peter Svidler vs Vladimir Malakhov

Peter Svidler tied Vladimir Malakhov 2 to 2, with 5 draws
I think Malakhov reached a very strong advantage, and Svidler hasn’t been very solid in this tournament.

        Sergey Karjakin vs Shakhriyar Mamedyarov
Sergey Karjakin beat Shakhriyar Mamedyarov 5 to 4, with 8 draws.*
Karjakin won the first game today, so i don’t expected Mamedyarov to advance

The chess world has re-established orders, with Russian being the language to talk here… 😉

Can I just ask- why have they stopped showing players’ ratings in brackets next to their names? I think it makes it much easier to have it in front of you with the pairings. The official site doesn’t do it so most showing it don’t.

After playing the World Chess Cup at Khanty Mansiysk in Siberia, Wang Yue went back to China and interviewed by Beijing Morning Post, he speaks out what exactly happened during their smoking-break.

        extract:

“On the day four rapid games, after the first one we(Wang Yue and Li Chao)went to smook to ease the tension, and also helped each other to remember what we had prepared games including opening and tactics. We would have thought of something less than a cigarette, an arbiter came to inform us that we were late, and I thought he was well-intentioned, to remind us, and we quickly ran back, but we were told lost our games by forfeit! What make me most depressed was that the gameclock showed only 10 seconds late, while from the smoking room to the playing hall was only 10 meters of distance. I was really angry at that moment, because after all we were in the organizing committee designated rest area, we did not receive timely notice, only 10 meters away, …
