
GIB IS FAST BECOMING ONE OF THE WORLD’S CHESS CAPITALS – LEONTXO
Top chess journalist Leontxo Garcia said Gibraltar was fast becoming one of the world’s chess capitals. Giving his support to the Gibtelecom Chess Festival which enters its eighth edition in January 2010 he paid tribute to the development of the tournament locally and to its organisers, sponsors and supporters. Presenting a highly informative and successful lecture on world chess entitled ‘Chess, A Fascinating School of Creative thinking. His lecture at the Caleta Hotel covered both the history and development of the game, and its educational and social values, where he stated that Chess was universal and convincingly declared: “Chess makes you smarter and improves your brain age.” At the lecture were Governor Sir Adrian Johns and Minister for Sport Edwin Reyes, together with educationalists, chess enthusiasts and sponsors.
