Hi. Does anyone know if Hou has any other norms. The title woman grandmaster does not suit her strength as she is clearly IM to GM strength.

Chinese Female chess player normally don’t apply IM title because their association doesn’t think that title is that important. Hou should have got IM title already when she just turned 13. This is her first GM norm although she missed only 2 points(2598)last month in Corus and 4 points(2596) in Olympic Team Game in 2006. As far as I know, Zhao Xue already got 3 GM norms but not sure why China chess association hasn’t applied it for her.

It seems like half of the world’s elite female chess players come from China.
        China is making a statement.
