      Vanya Somov’s memorial 2010
      Young chess stars of the world collect in Kirishi

      The eighth International youth grandmaster tournament “Young Stars of the World” in memory of Vanya Somov takes place in Kirishi, 8th-25th of May, 2010. Top seeded is GM Yaroslav Zherebukh (UKR 2554), followed by GM Aleksandr Shimanov (RUS 2553) and GM Samvel Ter-Sahakyan (ARM 2513). The only women girl participant is WGM Alina Kashlinskaya.       The opening ceremony took place May 8th in the Palace of Culture “KINEF”. Organizing Committee is headed by the governor of Leningrad region Valery Serdyukov, IGM ICCF Gennady Nesis, IA J.D.Zinder, and the appeals committee is by GM S.M.Yanovsky, head coach of the youth national team of Russia.

      Board of the Russian Chess Federation AV Dvorkovich sent greeting to the wishes of “outstanding athletic and artistic achievements” on behalf of the Russian Chess Federation. In welcoming in particular says “… Largely due to hold this traditional event Kirishi became widely known throughout the chess world. And participants in the first tournament Karjakin, Nyapomnyashchy, Caruana – are already in the adult world chess elite. For us it is very important that tournaments in Kirishi become an excellent school to improve the skills of leading Russian juniors. Hopefully, it will be so in the future … “
