It can change, but only after women and girls become a much larger presence in chess. Look at other fields:academics, science, medicine, politics… that is what it took.
This is beyond sad. It’s infuriating! I knew that large numbers of young women stopped playing chess in their teens, but I never realized why until I read this post. I hope this post/commentary gets wide exposure. I hope that Magnus does see it. I will do what I can to have more people see this. At our club, we have a 10-year-old girl who has just recently become the youngest female in recorded USCF history to become an expert. I hope she never has to experience any of this. These idiots are a disgrace and embarrassment for all of the kind and decent male players everywhere. I will post a link to this on my club’s website.
