WON’T ARONIAN HAVE PROBLEMS IN BAKU?
      [12:34 pm] 24 December, 2007

In 2008 Azerbaijan will likely host a Grand-Prix tournament featuring the best chess players of the world.

Armenian GM Levon Aronian will leave for Baku in case Azerbaijan gains a right to hold the tournament in the country.

Azad Rahimov, the Minister of Sport and Youth Issues of Azerbaijan, says Aronian will hardly hamper the tournament with his participation.

“During the World Wrestling Championship held in Baku in September, 2007, the whole world witnessed how civilized the country was. Even Armenians confessed that they had had no problems in Baku, and the tournament was really held on a high level.

By the way Azeri chess player Teimur Rajabov once more refuted the statement published in the Azeri press according to which he had allegedly named “Armenia Azerbaijan’s implacable foe.” The Azeri chess player said the reporter had simply changed his words.

Radjabov sounds like a bellicose idiot

I am from the U.S. Radjabov is no idiot. He is one of the two or three most talented juniors around. World number 6 at his age? Super GMs attempt to hinder his progress b/c he is such a threat. Now this uncalled for bad press ( not this site) is a further attempt to hinder him. Objectively, he is a bigger talent than Carlsen and Karjakin, but perhaps not Yifan Hou!

Radjabov does not have to keep apologizing for his “hate” statement.
Obviously all he was doing was mentioning the deep animosities that everyone agrees exist between the two countries.
The phrasing is secondary, except to people who think the way today’s dime-store TV reporters do.
        So what?

What is bellicose is the character of a person who hides behind anonymity to criticize a specific person by name.

===Radjabov does not have to keep apologizing for his “hate” statement.===

Hope the person who writes above sentence doesn’t know what the “hate” statement is. Otherwise, it is ridiculus to justify those.

I wrote “Radjabov is a bellicose idiot”.

It’s bellicose because sportsmen are goodwill ambassadors for their country and Radjabov’s sending out a message of hatred instead of peace. Everyone’s aware that animosities exist on both sides, but why does a chess player need to reaffirm it openly? Is he playing psychological games with his Armenian opponents? Are Armenian Super GMs trying to suppress Radjabov’s rise? Isn’t Kasparov himself Azerbaijani? So why doesn’t he step forward and ensure that Radjabov’s invitation to tournaments are not hindered and he’s not bothered but allowed to play his natural game.

Why does Radjabov need to take his frustration out on Armenians?

        Chess for Peace, not war.

==Why does Radjabov need to take his frustration out on Armenians?==

Radjabov needn’t to do that. It was done by journalist who “invented” certain messages for political reasons. In some countries sportsmen are prisoners of politics.
