No point in looking this one up unless one has all day! They played lots of games! I’ll go for trying to deflect black’s Q and N from e7. 1. Ba5+ If 1….Qxa5 2. Rd4+ if 2….Nxd4 Qe7# if 2….N or B to d7 R takes with check and mates on d7. If 1….Nxa5 2. Rd4+ Qxd4 3. Qe7#
The goal that is attainable here is checkmate by queen at e7. There are two impediments, black knight and black queen. Knight can be forced to get removed from the picture by checking with (sacrificing) the white bishop at a5 and queen can be forced to get removed by checking with (sacrificing) the rook at d4. Now black king is for the taking.
Though Black still loses, at some stage in variations, Black does also have an option of Q-b6. One must be accurate in calculations! What if Q-b6 had been an amazing save, even leaving Black winning!
1. Rd4+ Nxd4 (or Qxd4 with same result)
2. Ba5+ Qxa5
3. Qe7#
1. Rd4+! Nxd4
(1……. N/Bd7
2. Rxd7+ N/Bxd7
3. Qxd7# )
(1…….Qxd4
is met with as in the main variation )
2. Ba5+! Qxa5
3. Qe7#

this is old school chess:
1. Ba5+ Qxa5
2. Rd4+ Nd7 (Nxd4, 3. Qe7#)
3. Rxd7+ Bxd7
4. Qxd7#
greets, jan
White goal is to check-mate with Qe7 or Qd7. In order to do that, white proceeds as follows:
1. Ba5+ Qxa5 (Nxa5 similar)
2. Rd4+ Nd7 (Bd7 similar)
(2…Nxd4 3. Qe7#).
3. Rxd7+ Bxd7
4. Qxd7#
after Ba5+, Rd4+ king is mate at Qe7#
Black’s N cannot move because of mate on d7
Ba5+ Qxa5
Rd4+ Nxd4 and mate on d7
Bd7 or Nd7 Rxd7 and mate the next move
Rd4 and over.
