You know, most of those players actually qualified for this World Cup, whereas your “super elite” mostly gets seeded into a competition without ever qualifying for it.
As a matter of fact, some of the 2400-2600 rated players are organizer wildcards, others qualified through continental championships. In any case, it doesn’t distort the competition much because they get quickly eliminated – unless they are worth more than their rating suggests (Yu Yangyi!?). Four years ago, a player rated 2570 made it to round 4, his name was Magnus Carlsen.
As far as the “super elite” is concerned, many qualified by rating – which means they demonstrated their chess capabilities, though not in the official qualifiers.
It’s really not wise to copy the results tables from official site (you are not the only one to do this)
1) They are constantly ignoring table 42
2) Tie-breaking system is completely different (it is NOT 2 rapid + 2 blitz + armageddon)
Who’s responsible for picking the colors on the Java board? Horrible choice…
2400 and 2500 rating players…contesting the Qualification for the WCC? Is this a joke?
A new measure for the success of a blog – the metre 🙂
