Chess Goddess and Everything, Fighting Chess

Goddesschess is the sponsor of the fighting chess prize of the 2008 U.S. Women’s Championship. The prize is $350 and the Susan Polgar Foundation will add an additional $150 to round it off to $500.

The hotel is nice and conveniently located. There is a supermarket / drug store across the hotel. There are many nice restaurants within a 5 minute walk.

Frank Berry is exhausted from working overtime to put on a nice event. Jim Berry will not be here until either late tomorrow night or Thursday. He is out of the country at the moment.

I have spotted IMs Ippolito, Vigorito, Finegold and GM Gurevich so far.

Unfortunately, I arrived home late last night from the National Elementary Championship in Pittsburgh. Therefore, I had to catch up on a number of things at SPICE before I can head out to Tulsa to personally deliver the Goddesschess fighting chess prize to Mr. Frank Berry. I wanted to make sure that the prize is there for the closing ceremony. I also wanted to personally support Mr. Frank Berry for generously sponsoring the U.S. and U.S. Women’s Championship. By the time I got to the hotel (after nearly an 8 hour drive from Lubbock), the games were already done.

I have to say that due to the tremendous technology today, I was able to do at lot of work in the car such as answering emails, conducting phone conferences, writing my weekly column, and even giving interviews. Don’t worry, it was completely safe because Paul was driving. What do we do without wireless technology? 🙂

I will post many pictures from round 2 and perhaps some video footage tomorrow.

Hi! How do you use techno if the car is shakin’? Take a rest girl! We need you alive and kickin’, not overworked.

Long trip: why aren’t you flying in as a Special Invited Guest of the USCF and sending them your bills?

There is no direct flight from Lubbock to Tulsa. We would have to go to Dallas then Tulsa.

We came here today because Mr. Frank Berry asked us to come and to honor the commitment to Goddesschess.

We are paying for all our expenses.

        Best wishes,
        Susan Polgar

What is the commitment to Goddesschess? Or do you mean ‘the commitment of Goddesschess?
By the way, are any other members of the USCF EB at the event?

Last year, Goddesschess sponsored a similar prize and it was not handled properly. This year, I was asked by Goddesschess to handle this task and I want to make sure that it is done right.

I also want to show my support of the players and Mr. Frank K. Berry.

No, I have not seen any board member here.

        Best wishes,
        Susan Polgar

Susan, that is a wonderful announcement from the Susan Polgar Foundation of the additional contribution to the Fighting Chess Award for the Women’s Championship. We at Goddesschess wish to thank you and Paul Truong for undertaking a trip to Tulsa to deliver the funds personally to Mr. Berry. We certainly did not expect you to travel to Tulsa personally to deliver the funds, but we are very grateful for your care and diligence in handling this matter on our behalf. Going this “extra mile” (or however many it is from Lubbock to Tulsa) is indicative of your care and concern for chess in the USA, and for the U.S. Women’s Chess Championship and its players in particular. Thank you thank you!

Totally unreasonable that you should have to fund such a noble task yourselves.
I think you should make your case to the Susan Polgar Chess Foundation and see if they can cover your bills. They must be more than $150 though.
