World champions’ chess masterpiece Breaking News Black to move. How should Black proceed? No computer lines please. 7r/1b5r/1QP3k1/2Pp4/P4qp1/8/2R2PB1/2R3K1 b – – 0 1 (Kramnik – Anand 2008) Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Qf3 and the white king cannot escape the mouse trap, as in spite of having the black king naked, checks are not useful.
….. Qf3
Bxf3 gxf3
cxb7 Kf5
And white can do nothing to prevent mate by Rh1, apart from sacrifycing some pieces.
1… Rxh1+ 2. Bxh1 Qh2+ 3. Kf1 Qxh1+ 4. Ke2 Re8+ 5. Kd3 Qf3+ and the end is close.
I don’t see a defense for white after Qf3
Only
1….Qf3!! wins sorry
Renium
1… Qf3
If 2.Bxf3 gxf3 and Rh1 and Rh2++
If 2.other Rh1+ 3.Bxf1 Qxf1++
If 2.cxb7+ Kf5 and another check is not possible
cool
Qf3
and the end is closer
I remember watching this game live on the internet when it was happening… won’t spoil it for you all… it’s a pretty interesting move.
Does 1…Qf3 not win win on the spot?
1…Rxh1 2. Bxh1 Qh2+ 3. Kf1 Qxh1+ 4. Ke2 Qe4+ and I don’t see the win clearly, but white should have at least a draw by perpetual if nothing pans out.
1. … Qf3, threatening … Rh1+, looks strong. White’s response? 2. cxb7+ is answered by 2. … Kf5, and all that White can do is throw things at Black awaiting the … Rh1+ clincher. (2. Bxf3 and gxf3 puts White in the same boat.)
Anand played Qf3! which after a few useless checks by white leads to mate on h1. The most amazing thing was this was a Rapid game.
Amazing finish, especially considering it was played *blind-folded* !!!
You guys have to do better. 🙂
ba6? followed by qf3?
