      The top Senior players in Greece, the land of the Gods!

      The host of the FIDE World Senior Chess Championships 2012 is the excellent 5-star GALINI Wellness Spa & Resort Hotel in Kamena Vourla, the largest and most complete spa resort in Greece. 

      Close to Athens (190 km to the north), Galini Wellness Spa nestles in a valley of eucalyptus trees and is internationally renowned for its thermal springs and their therapeutic qualities, combining the freshness of the mountain and the breeze of the sea.

      Venue / Location

      The FIDE World Senior Chess Championship 2012 is open to all players provided that men are born in 1952 or before and women in 1962 or before. It will take place in the conference hall of GALINI Wellness Spa & Resort Hotel***** which is located by the Aegean seaside and is also an ideal starting point for extensive walking or excursions to the Meteora monasteries, Delphi, Thermopiles and many other points of archeologic interest.

      Tournament System

      The 2012 FIDE World Senior Chess Championship is open to all players, regardless of their title or rating, provided that men participants are born in 1952 or before and women participants in 1962 or before. The event consists of 2 groups (Men/Open and Women). The games will be played according to the Swiss System in 11 rounds, FIDE rated. National ratings will not be taken into consideration for the pairings. Rate of play will be according to FIDE regulations 90 minutes for 40 moves plus 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting from move 1.
